A Letter from Roy
Dear friends of the LeRoy Maas Scholarship Fund,

MY WIFE LILLIAN AND I HAVE GONE THROUGH A DRASTIC CHANGE WITHIN THE LAST YEAR.
AFTER GOING SOUTH EVERY WINTER FOR THE LAST TWENTY FOUR YEARS, WE FINALLY SOLD OUR MOBILE HOME IN MESA , ARIZONA  AND SPENT OUR FIRST WINTER IN MINNESOTA   THE WINTER WAS NOT BAD AT ALL.  I BOUGHT NEW WINTER CLOTHES AND NEW OVERSHOES BUT  I NEVER WORE THEM  ONCE.
MY WIFE AND I ARE LIVING IN THE OLD JOHNSON LAUNDRY BUILDING ON   THE NORTH END OF BROADWAY. THERE ARE EIGHT UNITS AND THEY ALL FACE THE LAKE.  I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO BUY AND THIS IS OUR 15TH YEAR  IN THE CONDO.
I KEPT TELLING PEOPLE THAT WE WOULD HAVE A SNOW STORM IN MARCH AT THE  TIME OF THE  STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT.  SURE ENOUGH, WE GOT A SNOW STORM WITH 19 INCHES OF SNOW.  SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT OLD GEEZER KNEW WHAT HE  WAS TALKING ABOUT.
MANY THANKS TO YOU, THE FOUNDERS AND OTHERS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. WITH YOUR HELP WE HAVE GIVEN 20 SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH $25,000 TO DESERVING  ALHS STUDENTS.
I HAVE JUST REACHED MY 88TH BIRTHDAY. AND AGAIN I THANK GOD FOR THE SPECIAL BLESSINGS IN MY LIFE-FAMILY-FRIENDS- AND FORMER STUDENTS . I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS ABLE TO TOUCH THE LIVES OF SO MANY STUDENTS IN MY 40 YEAR TEACHING  AND COACHING CAREER.
HAVE A GREAT YEAR, YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO ME..

WITH KINDEST PERSONAL REGARDS - COACH MAAS

A Letter from Manny Steil (September 20, 2005)
Dear friends of the Leroy Maas Scholarship Fund,
You will be pleased to know that the LeRoy Maas Scholarship continues to support the education of deserving ALHS students. Last May we awarded an additional $4,200 to 3 additional recipients of the LeRoy Maas Scholarships. This year's students, Jared Butler, Zach Hansen, and Brandon Klukow, were an outstanding group that will do well at Drake University and Augsburg College. Each student was awarded $1,400. At 88, Mr. Maas continues to be excited as we have provided $25,000 in Scholarship support to 20 students over the last 9 years.

As you know, our primary goal is to perpetuate the values, teachings, and life-long service of LeRoy Maas while assisting the educational development of deserving ALHS student athlete/scholars.

Our financial goal is to create a minimum base fund of $100.000.00 and grow the fund annually. To date we have received cash donations of $89,280 from 527 contributions from 127 individuals, classes, and organizations. In addition, the Maas Scholarship has been named as beneficiary of a $10,000.00 donated Life Insurance policy.

As all Maas Scholarship awards are made from accrued interest, every addition to the principal will increase our future annual awards. To that end, our Board of Trustees invites your continued generous contributions. We appreciate and extend thanks for your important continued support.

Sincerely,

Manny Steil
Board of Trustees
P.S. In special recognition, a bronze sculpture of Mr. Maas was commissioned and donated by the Frank Gallagher family. It is the first bust of an Albert Lea teacher to be displayed at the new Albert Lea High School. We extend our thanks to the Gallagher family,
