What is the LeRoy Maas Scholarship Fund?
- The LeRoy
Maas Wrestling Scholarship Fund is a program allowing individuals
across the Unied States to perpetuate the values and teachings of LeRoy
Maas in providing financial assistance to deserving Albert Lea High
School wrestling athletes in the form of scholarships.
- The LeRoy
Maas Wrestling Scholarship is a grant for Albert Lea, Minnesota High
School wrestling students. It is a 501(C) (3) Tax Free Charitable
Trust. The fund is managed by the Minnesota Foundation. They hold and
administer charitable funds for individuals, organizations, and
communities.
- All grants
go from the Foundation, to the School District, and then to the college
of the recipient's choice.
How is it Funded?
- We invite
all contributions from interested individuals and organizations. The
principal will continually be invested and 90% of the resulting
interest will awarded in scholarships.
- CONTRIBUTING
MEMBERS OF THE LEROY MAAS WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP FUND RECOGNIZE AND
HONOR THE LIFE-LONG VALUES AND TEACHINGS OF COACH MAAS AND SUPPORT THE
CONTINUED EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES OF DESERVING ALHS
WRESTLING STUDENT ATHLETES. WE ALL STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS AND
INVITE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO GROWING ANOTHER GENERATION.

Are Contributions Tax Deductible?
- Yes. The
LeRoy Maas Wrestling Scholarship Fund is classified by the IRS as a 501
(C) (3) tax exempt organization. Contributions are invested and managed
by the Minnesota Foundation
How are Scholarships Awarded?
- The
Steering Committee will screen all applicants, interview final
candidates, and select recipients. Scholarship awards will be made on
the basis of sportsmanship and moral character, financial need, and
scholastic and athletic achievement.
What are the Criteria for Application?
- •Applicants
must exhibit a high level of sportsmanship and moral character.
- •Applicants
must have a financial need.
- •Applicants
must have proven academic and athletic ability.
- •Applicants
must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Potential
applicants can receive an application by talking with Coach Skaar.
Do Students Pay Back Scholarships Upon
Graduation?
- No. The
LeRoy Maas Wrestling Scholarships are awards, not loans. Funds
available for scholarships grow by principal investment and annual
member contributions.
